Grounded Futures
Geological layers of stone and earth have been formed over billions of years. In the last century, humans have added other layers: concrete, construction waste, and urban debris. In Barcelona, this calcium-rich material opens new possibilities for Anthropocene biomineralization, where algae could act as a living binder, bringing geological and human-made matter together into new mineral formations, that could build the city of tomorrow.
